Photo illustraition #2
Photo illustraition #1
My favorite situation was the one of the blues festival with the man playing the guitar.
They transformed the picture into a really creative artistic piece that symbolized it very well.
I think they looked at the photo and then drew a more abstract version

Architecture:Long center
My favorite photo is #1: This photo holds alot of power. Its a bit warped not because of the photographer but because of the building itself, which gives it more character. The light emphasizes the important parts of this photo. The composition is very well done. The only thing i would have liked(if its even possible) to see the bottom level as well.

Sports photo assignment
1. Name of photographer –Daryl Peveto
General focus of portfolio (photoj, sports, stories, etc.)-a mix of sports and stories with some commercial photos at the end
List three problems that the judges note with the portfolio – captions were bad, just said next and no a lot.
List two things the judges like-good balance of colors, good focus
What is your overall impression? What did you like or not like? Really nice black and white photos, with good contrast, their sports photos were not fantastic, and didn’t really show much emotion
2. What did the judges note as strengths as they were critiquing it? How he is right in the action
What do you see as strengths? Do you see any weaknesses? great lines and angles, and emotion, some were a bit too photo shopped for me.
3. Briefly describe the process the judges went through in deciding the winner. They went through all the portfolios and commented them as a whole, complimenting good photos and completely bashing the bad ones, yet looked as an overall portfolio.
Part 2
1.we both agreed that the portrait of the cheerleaders on the pool table was ridiculous and unnecesary. It was strange and odd and didn't fit together.
2.I disagree with the comment about the picture of the tennis player with his arms up. The racket that was flying in front that crossed over his arm was completely distracting to me and although they really liked it i couldn't get over the racket and it ruined the picture for me.

my story
The administration’s new creation of Tardy sweeps here at Akins, has caused much stir with the students by giving them harsher consequences for being late, in hopes of increasing attendance and participation.
The Tardy sweeps seem to do the exact opposite of what administration had hoped.
Robert Robles, Junior, says that “far too many,” of his friends have been caught in a tardy sweep at least once. Proving that the Sweeps are keeping students out of class longer than they would be originally.
Although most of the students are negative towards the sweeps, mainly the ones caught in them, some remain positive towards the sweeps, assuring the staff that it’s a good change.
One of those supportive students is Glen Cruz, Senior, who feels that if “your late you deserve to go to Saturday school,” and that Saturday school is very effective because “it takes your absences away.”
Yet in common conversation, sweeps are constantly brought up. Juniors Cecelia Munoz, Casey Oswald, and Christie Gonzales were discussing and came to little agreement about the subject.
All seemed to have negative opinions about them, Cecelia felt that the sweeps are “dumb,” Casey thinks they are “stupid,” and Christie said she is “not fond of the sweeps because it’s unfair for kids who are rarely late.” And when asked if they were effective all gave mixed opinions. Casey and Christie feel that “they are effective,” because Christie “now sees kids running to class and actually making an effort to be on time.” Although Cecelia says “no they are not.”
Out of the 5 people I interviewed only 2 of them have been caught in a sweep. So either the system is working or my interviewees are prone to timeliness.

#10 National Geographic (June 1985)Photographer Steve McCurry immortalized the haunted eyes of a 12-year-old refugee in a camp on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Soviet helicopters destroyed her village and family, forcing her to make a two-week trek out of the perilous mountains of Afghanistan. The photo became a National Geographic icon after it was published on the cover in June 1985. Since then, this raw, untouched image has been used on rugs and tattoos, making it one of the most widely reproduced photos in the world.
My Critique: I love this picture. The way her eyes captivate you and suck you into the picture is indescribable. The fact that there is a simple background definetly helps, yet it is so captivating with the color of her skin to the bright colors of her clothing and eyes. This is a perfect example of the right picture the right exposure and the perfect timing. I love this picture and could look at it for hours.

Cover History
Cover types
1. Early Magazine Covers
In early magazines, they didn't have covers just table of contents. Then they began styling them like books. Some magazines began using a general cover for all the issues, so that it wouldn't mention what was in the issue. In earlier times, there were a wide range of different types of covers.
2. The Poster Cover
People began putting illustrations on their covers. Finding quality artists to draw elaborate pictures on their magazine covers. Some were so elaborate that they would be mistaken to be framed and on a wall rather than on the front of a magazine. There was little writing on these covers, the artistry took the majority of the cover. Life magazine in 1936 was the first magazine to use photographs as the cover.
3. Pictures Married to Type
The eras of magazines are clearly established when first looked upon. When you first look at a magazine you can tell what era, decade, or even year or date of when it was created, because not only were the past time magazines very simple, but also current events that were happening in the time, directly effect the magazine and magazine cover.
4. In the Forest of Words
At the turn of the 21st century, magazines began writing practically everything in their magazine on the front cover. The words covered up most of the photograph.

Biggest Headline
YES, HE COULD!
By the time the networks announced it, Barack Obama's Electoral College–landslide presidential victory was as inevitable as it had once seemed impossible. The election of the first black President of the United States of America had been an epic journey, not only by virtue of the racial barriers it smashed but also by dint of the campaign ingenuity and inventiveness that marked a generational shift in American politics. At the center of the drama was Obama himself, heroic but self-possessed, outdistancing formidable rivals, always the smartest and most charismatic figure in the room. It remains to be seen, of course, whether all the ecstatic political soteriology of his campaign can overcome the economic apocalypse Obama will inherit, along with a vexing list of adjunct crises from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the dysfunction in American education and health care. But for a moment on Nov. 4, Americans across the board were invited to renew their faith in the true magic of their country's story.
Best song of 2008
One of my favorite songs this year, rather album, was Coldplay's Viva La Vida. I think its the best song not only for its melody and lyrics, but the music video to acompany it. It creates an old civil war type look with famous paintings from history, the whole video looks like an oil painting.
photo of the year
Images of books on shelves are seen projected on the walls of the Tower of David in Jerusalem's Old City - part of a show called "Or Shalem, Jerusalem Lights the Night", staged by a group called Skertzò on October 7, 2008. The Tower of David is a massive citadel that, over the centuries, has served as a fortress, military barracks and cannon position. These days, the Tower serves as a popular tourist site
*I think that this should be a good canidate for the photo of the year, because it is so unique in the fact that they projected such a clear photo onto the Tower of David. This creates a different and beautiful picture.
A single home is left standing among debris from Hurricane Ike September 14, 2008 in Gilchrist, Texas. In its brief, but eventful life, Ike wreaked enough havoc to be blamed for over $31.5 billion in damage and nearly 150 deaths across the Caribbean and Gulf Coast. (
*I think this should be considered as the photo of the year because of its use of a current event and its wonderful composition. It is focused perfectly and has a clear subject, yet also shows the destruction of the hurricane.
A polar bear shakes his body to remove water at the St-Felicien Wildlife Zoo in St-Felicien, Quebec on March 6, 2008
*I think this should be a good canidate for the photo of the year, because it is captivating in the amazement of the timeing that it took so get this shot. The remarkable closeness and composition create a fun cool picture.
