1. Melanie Burford in addition to the photography used music and dialog to complement the pictures to give them more of a story.
2. They helped tell the story. They gave a saddness and lack of hope that most of them are feeling. it made her pictures more breath taking cause they gave a sense of background or knowledge, and more emotion.
3. I think the most effective thing is the music behind the video.
