When Dorothea was 7 she was diagnosed with polio which left her an obvious limp which her own mother was ashamed of. Dorothea's dad walked out on her family when she was young, and dorothea's family moved in with their grandmother and aunt, which is when she discovered that she enjoyed photography and wanted a job doing that instead of her mothers ambitions of her being in education. Dorothea lived a full life with many friends and family, she created a name for herself as a famous photographer mainly in the 1930's during the great depression where her work is more noticed.
